Mohamed Morsi, the New President of Egypt

After a long selection process, Egypt finally has a new president. Muslim Brotherhood leader Mohamed Morsi was elected leader of the state pyramid.

AFP reported on Sunday (6/24/2012), managed to beat its competitors Morsi Ahmed Shafiq, who previously served as prime minister. Both agreed to unite.

Morsi, one of the powerful leader of the Muslim Brotherhood. He promised that under his leadership, Egypt will embrace all parties, including the secular and Christian voters.

Morsi be the only candidate of the Muslim Brotherhood after rivals disqualified Khairat El-Shater.

What kind of figure Morsi? Many people judge it as less charismatic character. But his promise to end discrimination in Egypt based on religion, ethnicity, and gender have made a lot of the sympathy.

"The Egyptians will never return back through the window Mubarak after they kicked the door," he told reporters.

During his campaign, Morsi also had promised to lead the government throws based on the principles of Islam, but is not a theocracy.

Morsi was born in the province of Sharqiya, near the delta of the Nile. He graduated with an engineering degree from Cairo University in 1975. Then he received a PhD from the University of Southern California in 1982.

He is a member of the anti-Israel and served as a member of parliament since 2000. In 2005, Morsi was imprisoned for 7 months for participating in the protest with the reformists.

In 2010, Morsi be a spokesman for the Muslim Brotherhood. But in 2011, exact date of January 28, he was re-imprisoned by the government of Hosni Mubarak as part of the protests against the government.

Currently, Morsi is married and has five children.
